Student ClubsNMT Physics ClubWe have a very active physics club, affiliated with the national Society of Physics Students. Some of our students also belong to Sigma Pi Sigma, the national honor society within the Society of Physics Students (SPS). In addition to the Outreach Program, they are active in bringing in outside speakers and in arranging field trips. Weekly meetings often have physics exploration themes where students play with liquid nitrogen or build model rockets. Visit the Tech Physics Club web site for more information. NMT Astronomy Club
NMT Educational Outreach ProgramNMT physics students have established an educational outreach program. They want to bring physics out into the community, and to show pre-college students that science can be fun and interesting. Their projects have included "Physics Day Paper Airplane" contests and Van de Graaf demonstrations at area schools. They were involved in setting up a computerized weather station (which reports to one of the Albuquerque TV stations) at one of the local Socorro schools. |
