Need Help with your Homework?

Introductory physics students can take advantage of our drop-in help sessions, which are run by physics teaching assistants. Check the current schedule for the best times to drop by. For some of the more advanced courses, tutoring is available through NMT's Advising Resource Center. In addition, for all courses, remember that your teachers have office hours, and you are welcome to visit them for one-on-one consultation. Find out when your teacher's office hours are, and then by all means visit him or her!

Student Jobs

We are a small school and it is easy for faculty and students to get to know each other personally. This make it relatively easy for students to get jobs in which they work with faculty members on research projects. Check the research page to see what work faculty in the Physics Department are doing. In addition to work on campus, many of our graduate and undergraduate students are working with Langmuir Laboratory , the Magdalena Ridge Observatory, EMRTC , and the National Radio Astronomy Observatory. We cannot post specific jobs here, but we recommend that students check with the department secretary, and also contact faculty members individually, to find out what is available.

Career Services

New Mexico Tech is noted for its career services department. Career services can personally help you to make those important career decisions and land that dream job.

The American Insitute of Physics Career Services Center provides helpful career information and job opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate physics students

Computer Facilities for Students

Only rarely do our students not find a free computer when they want one. Our graduate students have access to a large number of physics department workstations and PC's. All of our students have access to a Physics workstation lab on the third floor of Workman Center. In addition, all NMT students have access to the New Mexico Tech Computer Center which makes a large variety of Sun and PC machines, and useful software available to students.

Student Common Room

The Physics department has set aside a large room in our new building as a student lounge. Its purpose is to provide a meeting place, a place for formal and informal help sessions, and to act as a general common room for physics students. It is open whenever the building is, and has become an important center for our students.
